What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel uses a formulation applied to the skin to create a controlled exfoliating effect. It is a treatment approach, not one standard recipe: the product, application and your skin’s response shape the experience.
Visible flaking is only one possible response. The menu below includes different named treatments, so preparation, application and aftercare should be discussed for the option you are considering.
Application
A formulation is applied according to the selected treatment.
Skin response
The exfoliating effect and the way skin responds vary.
Care afterwards
Recovery and visible peeling are individual; follow the guidance for your appointment.
Not every peel is the same
Choosing a peel starts with a conversation about your skin and what you want from the appointment. Price, a familiar name or the amount of visible peeling cannot make that decision on their own.
Your goal
What bothers you, what you hope to understand and what would be a realistic change.
Your skin now
Irritation, previous reactions, sensitivity and changes since your last treatment.
Your recent care
Skincare products, medicines and recent procedures, including treatments elsewhere.
Your timing
An upcoming event, travel, sun exposure and the time you can allow for recovery.
From there, discuss the proposed treatment and the care it would require. A different approach, further assessment or postponing a peel may be the appropriate next step. A stronger treatment is not automatically a better match.
Facial or chemical peel: which approach fits your visit?
Facial
A broader skin-care appointment that may focus on cleansing, hydration or maintenance, depending on the service.
What matters: the facial’s purpose and the steps planned for your visit.
Chemical peel
A peel-based approach to topical exfoliation and renewal, selected as part of a treatment plan.
What matters: the selected formulation, application, your skin and the care needed afterwards.
These approaches can overlap: a facial may include exfoliation, and BE SPACE offers Deep Cleansing Facial + Peel. Neither category is automatically gentler, stronger or better. Compare the actual appointment, including how it fits your goals and recovery plans.
What happens during a peel appointment?

The sequence depends on the selected service. A visit may include the following stages; the exact products and finishing steps vary.
- Discuss and prepare. Review your skin, recent care and goals. Preparation may include cleansing before the planned treatment.
- Apply the selected treatment. The product and application follow the approach chosen for the appointment. Scheduled minutes are not the time a peel stays on your skin.
- Finish and plan your care. Discuss the finishing steps, what to expect and the instructions for caring for your skin afterwards.
Before treatment begins, make sure you understand the plan and have had a chance to ask questions. Mention any change in your skin or medication since you booked.

Before your peel
Bring a clear picture of your recent skin care. A list or photos of the products you use can make the conversation easier.
- Share your current skincare, medicines, allergies and previous reactions.
- Mention recent peels, other treatments, sun exposure or tanning.
- Tell your provider about irritation, broken skin or a history of cold sores, and any relevant changes in your health.
- Discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding before selecting a treatment.
- Give the date of an upcoming event or trip before agreeing on timing.
Some active skincare may need to be paused before certain peel treatments. Follow the instructions for your selected service rather than applying a general stop-time. Do not stop prescribed medication without guidance from the prescribing healthcare professional.
If your skin becomes irritated or develops a new problem before the visit, contact BE SPACE before attending. It may be better to reassess the plan or arrange another time.
Aftercare: give your skin the care it needs
Follow the instructions for the treatment you receive. Ask which cleansing and moisturising products to use, how to protect your skin from the sun, and when to return to your usual routine.
- Keep care gentle and avoid adding unnecessary irritation.
- Leave flaking skin alone; do not pick, rub or scrub it away.
- Check before restarting exfoliants or other active skincare.
- Confirm when makeup, exercise and heat exposure are appropriate.
Sun protection belongs in the plan even when peeling is not obvious. Ask how to protect your skin while it settles; do not assume that looking normal means it is ready for tanning or another active treatment.
Contact your provider about an unexpected or worsening reaction. Seek prompt medical care for severe symptoms rather than waiting for a routine follow-up.
What to expect afterwards
Your skin may look or feel different after treatment, and the response can change as it settles. Redness, dryness or visible flaking can occur, but the pattern and recovery time depend on the treatment and the individual.
Think about recovery in stages rather than a fixed calendar:
Immediately afterwards
understand what response is expected for the treatment you received.
While skin settles
follow your care instructions and report a response that concerns you.
Before another visit
discuss how your skin responded before deciding whether or when to repeat treatment.
An immediate appearance is not a promise of a lasting result. There is no single course or repeat interval for everyone, and an event date should be part of the conversation before booking.
Does every chemical peel make your skin visibly peel?
No. Visible flaking varies with the treatment and your skin’s response. It may be noticeable, subtle or absent; it is not the sole measure of whether a treatment has worked.
More peeling does not automatically mean a better result. Equally, little visible peeling does not remove the need for aftercare. Ask what response to expect for your appointment, and resist the urge to add an exfoliant or pick at skin to encourage shedding.
Your chemical peel questions
What is a chemical peel, and how does it work?
It is a topical treatment that uses a formulation to produce a controlled exfoliating effect. Different products and application approaches create different experiences; the word “peel” does not describe one fixed procedure.
How do I know which peel to choose?
Start with your goals, current routine and experience with previous treatments. Discuss these alongside the planned application and recovery. The selection factors above can help you prepare for that conversation without trying to choose by a product name alone.
Does every peel cause visible peeling?
No. Flaking can vary from obvious to barely noticeable. It does not, by itself, tell you the outcome. Keep following your aftercare instructions even if you cannot see peeling.
How is a chemical peel different from a facial?
A facial can cover a broader range of skin-care steps, while a peel focuses on a selected topical treatment. There can be overlap: the menu includes a combined facial and peel appointment. Neither category tells you the intensity on its own.
What is PRX-T33?
PRX-T33 is a named topical treatment in the BE SPACE peel menu, offered as a 45-minute appointment at $150 CAD. Ask about the approach planned for your skin and the care it requires before choosing it.
What is BioRePeel?
BioRePeel is a separate named option in the peel menu, also $150 CAD for a 45-minute appointment. Matching prices and times do not make it interchangeable with PRX-T33; confirm the proposed treatment rather than choosing on those details alone.
Is there downtime after a peel?
There can be. Both visible changes and adjustments to your routine depend on the treatment and your skin. Ask what to allow for work, social plans and skincare before booking; there is no universal recovery time.
When can I wear makeup afterwards?
Check the guidance for your treatment and how your skin is recovering. Do not use a fixed waiting time from another person’s appointment. Mention an occasion that requires makeup when planning the visit.
Can I exercise or use a sauna after a peel?
Ask when exercise, sweating and heat exposure can resume for the selected treatment. Plan around those instructions rather than assuming you can return to your usual activity straight away.
Should I stop retinol or other active skincare before a peel?
Some products may need a pause, but the decision and timing depend on the treatment and your routine. Share product names and ask for instructions. Do not change prescribed treatment without guidance from the prescribing healthcare professional.
Can I have a peel before an event?
Discuss the event date before selecting a treatment, especially if it is your first peel or a new approach for you. Allow for an individual response; a booking date alone cannot guarantee that your skin will be ready for photographs or makeup.
Can I discuss texture or uneven-looking tone?
Yes. Describe the changes you notice and what you would like to address. These are useful starting points for assessing your options, rather than reasons to choose a particular peel without reviewing your skin and history.
What if my skin is prone to breakouts?
Share what the breakouts are like and any acne medicines or treatments you use. A peel is not a cure for acne. Painful, persistent or scarring breakouts need medical assessment; the treatment name alone cannot establish suitability.
How often can I have a chemical peel?
There is no standard schedule for every product or person. Review the previous treatment, recovery and other skin care before planning another appointment. A course should not be assumed from a single service listing.
Can I combine a facial and a peel?
BE SPACE offers Deep Cleansing Facial + Peel at $200 CAD / 90 minutes. Confirm the planned steps and peel choice for that service. The separate Combined Peel appointment is not the same booking.
Do I need a separate consultation?
A Separate Consultation is available for $50 CAD / 30 minutes if you would like to discuss options before choosing a treatment. Ask whether a separate visit is needed for your situation when arranging the appointment.
Why does sun protection matter after a peel?
Sun exposure can affect recovering skin and increase the risk of unwanted colour changes. Ask how to protect your skin during recovery and when your usual sunscreen can be used. Little or no visible peeling is not a reason to skip that guidance.
What should I ask before my first peel?
Ask which treatment is proposed, what response is expected, how to prepare, how to care for your skin afterwards and whom to contact with a concern. Tell the provider about relevant skin and health history, even if it seems unrelated to the appointment.
